What is a Key Worker under the NDIS?
A Key Worker is your family's primary point of contact for early childhood intervention under the NDIS. Rather than juggling multiple therapists, you work with one dedicated practitioner who coordinates your child's support, delivers face-to-face sessions, and collaborates with our Occupational Therapists and broader team. Your Key Worker gets to know your child deeply and ensures strategies are consistently practised across home, preschool, school and community settings.
How is a Key Worker different from a therapist?
A Key Worker is not a substitute for a qualified therapist such as a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist. Instead, your Key Worker works alongside these professionals to help implement their recommendations in everyday environments. While an OT might assess your child's sensory needs, your Key Worker is the person who helps practise those strategies during morning routines at home or during group time at preschool. This means your child gets consistent, real-world support between formal therapy appointments.
What ages does Key Worker support cover?
Our Key Worker model is designed for children in the early intervention years, typically ages 3 to 6. This is a critical window for building school readiness, communication, emotional regulation and social participation. For children aged 7 to 12, our Capacity Building Practitioners provide a similar level of individualised support tailored to older children's developmental needs.
Where do Key Worker sessions take place?
Our Key Workers travel to your child's natural environments across the Mid North Coast — including Kempsey, Nambucca, Macksville, Coffs Harbour and surrounding communities. Sessions can happen at home, at preschool, at school, in community spaces, or via telehealth where appropriate. We find children learn best in the places where they actually need to use their skills.
